NEW ALBUM CRAFANGAU OUT 29.07.22

ABOUT

ABOUT

Me Against Misery is the latest standout project from Welsh POST-PUNK AUTEUR Matt Rhys Jones.

Musically true to Matt’s long history as an uncompromising post-punk auteur, Me Against Misery charts and rails against the poverty-strewn battlegrounds of late stage capitalism with heartfelt poetic fury.

Me Against Misery composes and performs bilingually, releasing an album in each of Matt’s native languages: the searing new-wave anger of 2020’s “Songs from a Divided Kingdom” was solely in English; and “Crafangau”, his more personal latest release, entirely in the Welsh language.

Matt is unashamedly influenced by Manic Street Preachers, Gary Numan and Nine Inch nails who share his fierce intelligence, lyrical dexterity and stark musicality

“The Manics are a clear and obvious inspiration to me.  How could they not be? They too came from a post Thatcherite South Wales with a determination to not simply accept the order of things, to not let the darkness overwhelm the light.

That’s been the heart of Me Against Misery – a determination to call out the shit that modern life piles up on the doorsteps, unsolicited, of the poor, the weak and the lonely.

That’s why this work has the name it does – it is my personal battle against depression and anger and voicelessness.  It is, quite literally, Me Against Misery.”

Matt Rhys Jones has been a millennial mainstay of the South Wales post-punk neo-wave scene, performing as songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and bassist for a host of South Wales headliners.

Original acts such as TalkShow, Juliet Sleeps and The Ceremony drew loyal followings across the UK and beyond for their raw, explorative live shows.

Both albums by Me Against Misery were written, performed and produced by Matt Rhys Jones, featuring regular collaboration with guitarist and songwriter Stuart Anstee, in the dramatic hills of the Rhondda valley, south Wales.
